Get Involved

Day in and day out, we're constantly thinking about ourselves and our own lives, we are so wrapped up in our lives that we forget the lives of others around us. We forget that there are others out there with much much less than we have been blessed with. For the past year I've been trying to find a good cause to support, something that I feel strongly about, something that I would fight against, or fight for. Along my search, I have come back with a few that I would like to dedicate my efforts to.

One of them is the fight against human trafficking and slavery. This happens all around the world, from Eastern Europe, to the Philippines to even our own backyard here in the US. Women and girls as young as twelve, are forced to walk the streets, selling their bodies to anyone who comes their way. Innocence is lost, as they enter a warped sense of maturity in a world of sexual perversion, alcohol, drugs, and human degradation.

GEMS (Girls Education and Mentoring Services) is the only shelter in New York City that provides aid for girls who have been victims of sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking. Places like these need to stay open, and need to keep helping these girls who want to get out of "the life" as they call it. I feel very passionate about this cause, and I will stand up for the rights and lives of these women.

There is a website called http://madebysurvivors.com/ It is created by an organization called TEN who helps women who have been victims of trafficking and helps them get back on their feet, and remake their lives. The website sells handcrafted jewelry made by the slavery survivors from all over the world. The jewelry is mostly sterling silver and semi-precious stones, and they also carry leather bags, and trendy recyclable backpacks and other misc. items. All the proceeds are donated to the survivors and their families.

I don't know about you, but I'm sick and tired of only thinking of myself. If we thought a little more about other people, maybe the world would be a better place.

Under the Influence

Coffee...a legal addictive stimulant. I love it! Why do I love it?

It boosts confidence. It gives me a strong sense of self, a feeling like I can do anything in the world, and get everything that I want accomplished. It brings out another side of me, a more daring side, a fun and exciting side that you never really get to see, because it's locked deep inside, hidden until something brings it out. It just gives me the freedom to be myself, and not care what anyone thinks! It's my alcohol! And the best thing about it? No hangover!

I'm going to start a "Why Don't You" section in each blog entry. Just some fun things to try on your spare/not so spare time!

So for this weekend: Why don't you go to Starbucks, or your local coffee shop, and get your favorite blend, and watch the effects. Monitor your mood before and after. If you see a change let me know!

Dream Away

People are always telling you to follow your heart, do what you think is right, or feels right...I say easier said than done, but there is a part of me that wants to believe that. I want to believe that my dreams will come true, and that I will be happy, and years and years down the road, I'll sit there and think, "I accomplished everything I wanted. I did what I came here to do." But on the way to that road, there are blocks put in the way; obstacles to overcome.

Why is it that people let others dictate their life for them? Can't they just break away from that and think for themselves? Self confidence is such a huge part of that. If you have the passion for something, don't let others tell you any different. Don't compare yourself with others! Just do your best and if you make it, great, if you don't, then at least you tried your hardest, and you know that you didn't give up something that could have been such a large part of your life. If you know you want to do something, then go for it. Don't waste your life away, doing something that you think you might enjoy doing, but are not really sure about it. Never settle. Always go for what you really want, and don't let that go. Whatever it may be, hold on to it tight, and never let it go, or you'll regret it for the rest of your life. The best feeling is waking up in the morning and not being able to get into work. That's when you know that you've made it to where you want to be.

Beams of Light

Beams of light and glittering diamonds,

Strings of pearls and colorful jewels

Laughter filled the air, and happiness reigned

Two lovers following their hearts

Soon a dark shadow loomed over the light

Burned out the flame that once glowed with pride.

The oceans rose, the heavens were darkened.

The winds murdered every pure feeling in its path.

The jewels stopped shinning, the laughter was drowned

The lovers were torn apart, their dreams and hopes shattered

Screams of pain, darkness and shame overcame the air

Suffocation, hatred, deception, cold-blooded heartlessness

Twas the end of an era, twas the end of every hope and dream

Nothing left to love, nothing left to see, and nothing left to live or fight for.

There lay the creation on the ground, shattered, the pieces impossible to fix.

Restaurant Review: Cine-It Burger & Grill

Cine-It Burger, a place where the cold tile floors and bare windows clash with its warm greetings and inviting, movie themed menu items. The drive-in theater inspired décor falls short of higher expectations. It seems to be aspiring to be something it could achieve with a few more investments. Three booths in the shape of cars line the window, and the rest of the space is filled with hard wooden tables and chairs, not in fitting with the feel of the restaurant. The walls are less than spectacularly decorated in scenes of old movies and a big drive-in mural, but even the artwork fails to impress, looking amateurish.

The food was surprisingly delicious, yet not the best burgers ever tasted. The fries were regular fast food style fries, with a more natural taste to them. The milkshakes were filled to three quarters of the Styrofoam cup, and the whipped cream dominated most of it. Although tasty, not the proper way to be made.

Much of the shortcomings have to do with the management and the training of the cooks. Also, with the arrangement of the décor, there needs to be more of a cozy feel, instead of cold and impersonal, even though there is a clear sign of effort on their part, more needs to be done to make this a truly enjoyable experience.

WARNING! WARNING! Ranting post.

The following is a rant from yours truly to anyone out there who feels the same way.

Why is it that when we are most in need of the right words to say, or any words at all, that we just lose them right then and there? Our minds go blank. It's like our brain is afraid to help us during our time of most need. And we just sit and stare, blankly, trying to search for the right things to say, or the best reaction, and all we get is silence. Nothing comes out. Nothing. And then we find ourselves losing the battles we crave to win. When confronted by someone who's only goal is to bombard our sense of self confidence, or to break us down, we just stand there and take it. No answering back, no defending ourselves. Nothing. We just sit there and take it. Why? We do we become so afraid to fight back when we know we are being hurt and damaged inside? Why do we stay silent when we see that we are being sabotaged? Fright? Perhaps....Cowardice? Holding a certain level of respect for that other person that should not be crossed? All fantastically real and valid reasons not to fight back, BUT all unfortunate. For us who think differently, and are not like the rest, must we really keep our feelings to ourselves while our compatriots are drowning us in their feelings and philosophies that we might not agree with? So they can talk and talk and talk about what they think and feel, but we, with opposing, different, or out-of-the-box ideals, must stay silent?? No. I think not. I completely disagree with the fact that being different or having different thoughts from someone merits them to be silenced. I'm just so sick of being silenced. Since when did having to criticize people, and saying all these negative and hurtful things about people ever become the popular way to act? Since when did putting others down and making hurtful generalizations and comments about others behind their backs ever become right?? If you have negative thoughts, people, keep them to yourself, don't spread hate around the world, or distaste around, because you know what, NOBOY WANTS TO HEAR IT. NOBODY WANTS TO HEAR YOU. Keep it to yourself, rant about it in your blog, on paper, whatever, but you don't need to say offensive things out loud to people who might not necessarily share your glorious opinion.

Lies...

I lied to someone and told them I was going to sleep now, which was half true because I AM going to sleep, just as soon as I update this BLOG that needs serious updating and so I'm going to post another one of my poems to make up for lost time.

Yo Era Otra

El dia que te ame

Yo era otra.

El dia que te dije que

Yo era otra.

Ese dia lo condeno,

el mismo que se olvido

que yo existia.

Aquerdate que yo estaba ahi.

Estaba a tu lado,

para quererte por siempre,

Siempre a tu lado.

Pero ahora, yo soy otra.

Cambiada por el odio y la rabia.

Torturada por los dias sin ti.

Nadando en mis lagrimas negras.

Pero ahora te olvide,

Como me olvidastes a mi.

Aquerdate que yo estaba ahi.

Estaba a tu lado,

para quererte por siempre,

Siempre a tu lado.

Pero ahora, yo soy otra.

Aquerdate que yo estaba ahi.

Estaba a tu lado,

para quererte por siempre,

Siempre a tu lado.

Pero ahora, yo soy otra.......otra estrana que tu nunca concoceras.

Hey I never said it had to be in English. I wrote this circa 2003, in sophomore year of high school.
